Introducing a Girl to Engineering Event at Hunter Elementary
SKA celebrated Engineering Week by continuing the tradition of Introducing a Girl to Engineering at Hunter Elementary in Greensboro, NC. Structural Engineer Intern, Erica Barber, talked to the 5th grade group of girls about what engineering is, with some fun SKA examples, and of course that girls are engineers, too! With some help from SKA volunteers (Tracy Scott from Accounting; Ania Reich, MEP Group; Morgan McEwen, Marketing), Erica led the group through a fun project that challenges the group to try making a table out of newspapers and cardboard that will hold up a book. Some chose to focus on theirs alone and even take it home to finish, while others were excited to work on it as a group and come up with multiple ideas to try together. Though Engineering Week is just one week out of the year, SKA will continue to promote and support engineering with our youth in the community all year long!
