SKA Elects Three New Members to Board of Directors

SKA management announces its new Board of Directors for 2015. The Board consists of six existing members with the addition of three new members. The new Board members were elected by the shareholders at the annual Shareholder’s Meeting on March 20, 2015.

Board membership is for three years with an opportunity to be renewed based on a majority vote of the shareholders. The following people now serve on the Board of Directors:

The Board is charged with overall operations of SKA, strategic visioning and planning, and strategic hires, among other duties.

Aaron Bopp, P.E., LEED AP BD+C, is a 15-year SKA employee and structural engineer based in Greensboro, North Carolina. Serving clients in the education, institutional, commercial and specific-facility vertical markets as a project manager and principal-in-charge, Aaron also serves as lead special inspector for projects where SKA serves as the structural-engineer-of-record. Aaron served as a member of the SKA Board of Directors since 2012, serving as chairman for the Stock Evaluation Sub-committee, a member of the Bonus Evaluation and Compensation Sub-committee, and as a member of the Board of Directors Nomination Sub-committee. Active in his industry within professional associations, he is a member of the American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC), North Carolina Healthcare Engineers Association (NCHEA), National Society of Professional Engineers (NSPE), American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), Structural Engineers Association of North Carolina (SEA), and the Council of Educational Facility Planners International (CEFPI). Aaron holds a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from Virginia Tech and has completed coursework towards a master in Structural Engineering at Virginia Tech where he was a Pratt Fellowship recipient. He is a registered professional engineer in North Carolina and Georgia.

Jeff Miller, P.E., is a 14-year SKA employee and registered engineer based in Charlotte, North Carolina. With 27 years of experience, serving as the manager for the Building Solutions Group, Jeff’s clients span the education, institutional, government, commercial and specific-facility vertical markets as a project manager and principal-in-charge. He specializes in water intrusion and water management design remediation, construction administration, peer review, litigation consulting, investigations, and evaluations. Jeff served as a member of the SKA Board of Directors since 2012, serving on the Stock Evaluation Sub-committee, a member of the Bonus Evaluation and Compensation Sub-committee, and as a member of the Board of Directors Nomination Sub-committee. Jeff is a member of the Building Enclosure Council (BEC), and Waterproofing Contractors Association (WCA). Jeff holds a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from North Carolina State. He is a registered professional engineer in North Carolina and South Carolina.

William “Bill” Knight is a former mayor of Greensboro, North Carolina, and served as member of the SKA Board of Directors previously. An inactive Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Bill ended his career as partner for a large Triad-area CPA firm. A large portion of Bill’s work was devoted to consulting for the formation of large health care entities and included close work with governing boards and committees in the development of business plans, compensation, and budgeting. In addition, he rendered tax and accounting services to numerous clients in real estate development, construction, and upper end multifamily housing and management services. Active in his community and hometown, Bill serves on the Board of Directors for the War Memorial Foundation (Carolina Field of Honor), as well as several churchrelated committees. Previously, he served as president for a local country club, a civic organization, and as a member of the Executive Committee for a professional golf tournament. He served one term on the Greensboro Parks & Recreation Commission and as an officer in the Guilford County Republican Party. “

The future of SKA is bright and prosperous,” said C. SKA’s impact on the built environment in North Carolina, the southeast, and across the country includes recently completed projects, such as: the Greensboro Aquatic Center, Sandpiper Run Condominiums in South Carolina, various projects at the University of Alabama, the new Buncombe County Courts building in Asheville, First Presbyterian Church renovations in Greensboro, WFU Baptist Medical Center Pediatric Emergency Department, renovations at the Biltmore Estate, multiple international projects for Tyco Electronics, and renovation and expansion projects for the City of Greensboro Coliseum, among others.
