Veteran engineer and Asheville Branch Manager, Robin Kanipe, announces retirement
Zebulon Wells, engineer and project manager, selected as replacement
GREENSBORO, NC (January 26, 2015) – Robin L. Kanipe, P.E., Asheville Branch Manager, announced his forthcoming retirement last week to SKA leadership. Kanipe, a 37-year SKA veteran, has been with SKA since March 1978 and plans to officially retire in early spring with a target date of April 3, 2015.
Kanipe began with SKA as an engineer in the Greensboro headquarters office, which was located on West Market Street. Shortly thereafter, he relocated to Asheville to expand SKA’s presence and reach into western North Carolina, Tennessee, and South Carolina. Dedicated clients over the years include the City of Asheville, Buncombe County, Buncombe County schools, Quaker Oats, Mission Hospital, Cort Architectural Group, Keith Hargrove Architects, and many more. He is an active member of the American
Institute of Steel and the International Concrete Repair Institute (ICRI).
“I have mixed emotions about Robin’s retirement. Robin contributed his talents not only to the engineering and marketing aspects of the firm, but he later served as a successful branch manager in Asheville and as a member of the Board of Directors,” stated C. Brad Ehrhardt, P.E., president. “I consider him a respected colleague and personal friend. I wish only the best for him and his family in this exciting chapter of his life. His talents will be sorely missed.”
Zebulon Wells, P.E. project manager, will assume the role of Asheville Branch Manager in April. Wells is a 35-year SKA veteran and structural engineer. Wells is a member of ASCE, ICRI, American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC), Engineers and Constructors International (ECI), and The Waterproofing Contractors Association (WCA). Select clients and projects include the City of Asheville, Grandfather Mountain Swinging Bridge, Western Carolina University, and Saint Joseph’s Hospital.
Due to similar client relationships, this leadership transition is anticipated to be smooth and seamless. Clients will receive the same personal service and high-quality design they have been accustomed to for nearly 40 years.
SKA’s impact on the built environment in North Carolina, the southeast, and across the country includes recently completed projects, such as: the Greensboro Aquatic Center, Sandpiper Run Condominiums in South Carolina, various projects at the University of Alabama, the new Buncombe County Courts building in Asheville, First Presbyterian Church renovations in Greensboro, WFU Baptist Medical Center Pediatric Emergency Department, renovations at the Biltmore Estate, multiple international projects for Tyco Electronics, and renovation and expansion projects for the City of Greensboro Coliseum, among others.
