Due to moisture intrusion into the Asheville Civic Center, the City of Asheville commissioned a program to determine the causes. As part of that effort, SKA performed a condition survey of the exterior concrete masonry walls. Upon completion of the survey, SKA generated detailed repair drawings for the conditions found in the survey. The repairs ranged from simple cleaning, addition of throughwall flashing, and sealing of the exterior walls to replacement of the existing failed sealant joints. In addition, numerous cracks in the existing walls were repaired and sealed. As part of the program, surface damaged concrete columns were repaired with polymer modified mortars. After the repairs were complete, the columns, beams and fascia were coated with two coats of an elastic anti-carbonation coating.
