Lake Craig Bridge Abutment Design

SKA was the structural engineer of record for design of the abutments for the new single lane pre-engineered bridge that spans over the Swannanoa River and connects Gashes Creek Road and Azalea Road East to the abutment walls. SKA furnished design and construction drawings for the reinforced cast-in-place concrete abutment walls. Due to the poor soil conditions, SKA specified a deep foundation system consisting of 88 steel H piles that were drive to average depths of 50’ below the abutment wall footings. SKA provide field consultation services and observations during the construction phase.
