Located in bustling downtown Roanoke, Market Garage is located adjacent to historic and commercial properties, serving government and commercial patrons. Standing at six stories tall, comprised of 230,000 square feet and 507 parking spaces, this structure is highly visible in the downtown area.
In 2007, SKA conducted a condition assessment and evaluation of the structure. The next phase of the project included repairs to the existing façade, the existing post-tensioned concrete structure, and the existing barrier cable system. In 2010, SKA completed the façade replacement project and a 33,000-square-foot, six-story addition to the parking deck, which added 70 spaces. The renovation included the demolition and replacement of a stair tower, relocation of the existing ticket booth, and reconfiguration of the 10,000-square-foot street-level retail space.
Currently, SKA is the structural engineer for a new Hampton Inn & Suites expansion atop the existing parking deck. This will be a three-story addition to the parking deck, utilizing structural steel and light gauge metal framing to reduce loads on the existing structure. The hotel is projected to be opened at the end of 2015.
