Waterlake DamHamlet, North CarolinaCloseWorking with the City of Hamlet, SKA performed an engineering assessment of the hardened concrete of this 1920 vintage dam structure to visually identify distress conditions within the hardened concrete structure, provide an opinion on the general condition of the dam, and make recommendations for repairs. The investigation revealed the strength and integrity of the exposed hardened portland cement was in fair to good condition. However, the sub-grade supporting the stepped spillway race was significantly eroded and compromised the stability of the stepped spillway and side retaining walls. Voids as much as 32 inches in depth were found, as well as undermining of the side retaining wall footings near the tailing ends. |
