Special Inspections
Engaging registered structural engineers for special inspections improves the quality of construction and minimizes the owner’s long-term risk and liability. As highly respected engineers, excelling in the design of complex engineering systems and structures, SKA translated this expertise into a successful special inspections unit, serving owners, contractors, and architects to ensure construction meets the design intent and maintains structural integrity.
The International Building Code (IBC) established special inspection protocol and requires structural tests and special inspections for materials, installation, fabrication, erection and/or placement of components and connections. These special inspection processes require specific expertise to determine compliance with approved construction documents and referenced standards (see IBC Sections 1702 and 1704). While some geotechnical and materials testing firms perform special inspection services, none of these firms or professionals are registered structural engineers. Furthermore, none of the typical firms performing special inspections have the added value of an in-house building solutions division with expertise in both vertical structures and building envelope and façade design.
Founded in 1957 as a structural engineering firm, with 30 structural engineers on staff, SKA is the smart choice to perform special inspections – either as the structural engineer of record (SER) or as a third party inspector.
