As a project manager and design engineer in SKA’s Structural Group, Aaron brings many dedicated years of experience to his role. Although his design expertise is in education, institutional, commercial, industrial, and specific-use facilities, he also outshines the competition in the art of baking the best homemade sweet potato pie. Aaron‘s experience in the design and repair of steel, masonry, and post-tensioned and mild steel reinforced concrete structures, including the application of polymer-modified reinforcing for strengthening and rehabilitation purposes, bring his design projects to life. He brought experience supervising engineering teams to his role as Director of Operations and works to achieve goals in the IT, Accounting, Human Resources and Marketing departments. Her work experience includes GPR investigations, NACE and coatings inspections, project oversite and management on various new construction buildings, and major roof repairs for federal buildings across Washington DC. Amy joined the army at 18 years old and served six years in various locations. Amy and her husband have 11 rescue animals and enjoy the outdoors, camping, kayaking, and backpacking the Appalachian trail. After working in the MEP/FP Group as a technician and designer, Andrew made a career change within SKA and moved into assisting with the IT Group. It’s a good thing Andrew is so easy going, as he provides hardware and software support for all of SKA, which includes the main hub in Greensboro, plus all satellite offices, and he does it all with a smile. Andrew loves golfing, not only for the solitude and beauty of the course, but the healthy competition he enjoys with friends and family. One of his favorite projects was working on the sanctuary lighting improvements for the First Presbyterian Church in Greensboro. Andy met his wife in a cherry orchard, and they now have three young sprouts of their own. He has experience in electrical power, arc flash analysis, instrumentation and electrical control systems, as well as a strong background in the design of equipment and process control systems utilizing conventional hardwired controls, programmable logic controllers, and distributed process control systems. His primary responsibilities include structural design and project management in addition to the investigation of structural failures, building evaluations, and structural rehabilitation design. Some of his major project accomplishments include the Greensboro Coliseum, Asheville Civic Center, parking decks, schools, and a wide range of commercial, industrial, institutional, and governmental projects. A life-long basketball fan and player, Bob coached several teams over the course of 40 years, including serving as the coach for 32 years for all YMCA Travel and All-Star Teams. Brett’s experience as a project manager includes structural design experience using many types of building materials including structural steel, cast-in-place concrete, pre-cast concrete, timber, laminated timber, aluminum, structural masonry and special earth retention systems. He likes working on large projects, “the larger and more challenging, the better.” Brett enjoyed working on his church’s project, Westover Church in Greensboro, with its 3,000 seat auditorium, and a roller compact concrete dam for the Town of Siler City. He enjoys those projects when the client values our expertise and the relationship is built over years and experience together. The best part of his job is interacting with people and asking questions. Brett loves to spend time with his family, including his four grandchildren, and is very involved in Westover’s leadership, teaching classes, and Biblical Studies. Cuthbertson, EISenior Technical Specialist“If it’s broke, we’ll fix it” is Brian Cuthbertson’s motto. Brian began as a graduate intern, and has been here ever since, working in his areas of expertise: roofing, waterproofing, building envelope and infrared studies. As part of the Building Solutions Group, Brian’s projects include conducting a wide variety of investigative tests and studies used to evaluate current conditions. Typical types of projects consist of building envelope and component investigations including brick, masonry, EIFS, stucco, concrete and wood structures. When not in the office working, or out on the job site, Brian is most likely found participating in one of his two favorite activities…spending time with his family and riding his motorcycle. Brad Ehrhardt, PEPrincipal EngineerBrad is a consummate engineer who has a personal passion for giving back to the community and the world at large through his extensive volunteer roles. By day he works with an award-winning, national structural, MEP/FP, and building envelope engineering firm – the #1 Engineering Firm in the Triad (Triad Business Journal). By night, he helps small pockets of the world gain health and relative prosperity by making their world a better place. Brad Ehrhardt is an esteemed, senior member of the SKA family as he has been with the firm since 1975, bringing more than 40 years of experience in commercial, institutional and industrial construction with an expertise in large commercial and industrial facilities. Brad oversees all phases of project management with planning, design, evaluation of existing structures, investigation of structural failures, and construction administration of multi-discipline projects. His leadership experience expands beyond the realm of engineering, as he also serves as a team leader for the United Methodist Church Volunteers in Mission for the Western North Carolina Conference where he takes a team to Guatemala once a year – an act of service he has facilitated for the past 12 years. Bathgate, PE, LEED AP BD+CPrincipal Engineer | Structural Services ManagerA member of the NC Urban Search and Rescue Engineers and former US Naval Reservist, Chris currently serves as a project manager and design engineer in the Structural Engineering Group as well as the Structural Services Manager. When he isn’t drinking espresso or reading Dilbert his primary responsibilities include structural design and analysis, preparation of plans and specifications, as well as construction administration and field observation as well as service line management. With a wide range of design experience, Chris specializes in educational, commercial, industrial and specific-use facilities. Chris is one of only a few ACI Certified Concrete Construction Special Inspectors in the state. Chris is a past and current member of SKA’s Board of Directors. In addition to being a founding board member for the North Carolina Structural Engineers Association, he has continuously held an officer position with the local chapter since 2008. In the first instance of its kind, Chris was among six engineers that volunteered and were deployed to Edgecombe County through the SEER program with North Carolina Emergency Management to assess flood damage to residential structures resulting from Hurricane Matthew. Chris has played, refereed or coached ice hockey for the last 20 years and is currently coaching his daughter’s 16U team. Previous to joining SKA, he worked for Buncombe County Government as an HVAC Specialist. Daniel loves spending time with his wife and two kids, bass fishing and playing cornhole. He is a huge Clemson Tigers fan and enjoys watching football, basketball, and baseball.

He maintains a healthy competition with his brother involving a nightly Jeopardy challenge (he practices up by battling crossword puzzles). Tepke, PEPrincipal Engineer | Building Solutions ManagerDave is the Building Solutions Manager in the Charleston office and also serves as a project manager where he fights the good fight against corrosion and concrete deterioration. Dave is one of the nation’s leading experts on structural and durability assessments of concrete structures, development of repair and service-life extension strategies and troubleshooting concrete construction. He conducts testing programs, develops coating and high-performance concrete specifications for severe and unique conditions and develops construction documents for the structural repair and preservation of structures. His project experience includes a variety of different types of structures and conditions including coastal structures, manufacturing and industrial facilities, facilities with severe chemical exposure, historical structures, parking structures, energy sector facilities, water and wastewater treatment plants and stadiums.

Ed has been involved in class action repair scope determination and damages calculations for Chinese drywall and CSST gas supply lines. He changed majors and worked full-time while attending High Point University’s evening degree program, receiving a Bachelor of Science in Information Systems. Eric met his future wife on a blind date through friends, and they were married in 1996. The chemistry was great between Eric and Kelly – a chemist. They have since added twin boys to the mix. Eric is actively involved with his boys, serving as a Scout leader for Troop 107, as well as coaching soccer, basketball and football. Typical projects include the evaluation of distress conditions and water intrusion issues for existing facilities, project management during restoration, and construction administration services. His experience consists of building cladding systems such as masonry veneer, EIFS, hard coat stucco, and window and door systems. Gale enjoys working on renovation projects and new buildings, including establishing existing conditions in the field and meeting with clients, various design consultants and construction professionals during the design and construction process. Gale primarily designs HVAC systems, but she also assists with the design of plumbing, electrical and fire protection systems. She often takes the lead in the coordination of all the different disciplines it takes to bring a project together successfully. Part of a military family, Gale grew up in England and attended the University of Maryland’s Munich, Germany, campus where she earned an Associate of Arts Degree. Later, she earned a BFA degree from Colorado State University with a concentration in Interior Design. Aside from engineering, Gale loves spending time with family and friends, gardening, travel, art, exercise and reading. He also sits on the CAD and Quality Control Committees, which develop standards and common practices for all departments to follow. Jay enjoys cooking and grilling, which is good because he burns a lot of calories in his obsession with running and has run numerous 5Ks, a few half marathons, and the Pittsburgh Marathon. Jim also loves to travel; his most memorable trip was dog sledding and snowmobiling on the continental divide of the Colorado Rockies. He loves managing the project, “solving the puzzle,” working with clients, and finds that his work brings him different challenges each day. Ralph’s design experience includes classroom facilities at all educational levels, parking decks, athletic and recreational facilities, office buildings, and industrial facilities. His experience also includes investigation and repair projects, peer reviews, and condition surveys. He has significant experience in the design of reinforced concrete, post-tensioned concrete, steel, and masonry structures. Ralph has also been highly engaged at SKA’s corporate-level, serving on a number of operational committees. As a member of the CAD Committee, Ralph led the process for the development of standards for CAD drawing production and electronic file management that are currently used company wide. CAD standards were implemented for each engineering discipline through a network based custom computer program that controls CAD drawing appearance and automates repetitive tasks for quality control and efficiency. As a member of the Strategic Planning Committee, he was one of six committee members selected by the board of directors to develop a corporate strategic plan under the guidance of a business planning consultant. He has an extensive background with building moisture issues, sustainable design, and works closely with the Building Solutions Group. Stephen is a LEED Accredited Professional with experience on multiple projects. Life is perfect for Stephen when he can combine all of his passions into one trip: travel, landscape photography, racing (completed two ironmans and several marathons), food (loves cooking, baking and exploring new restaurants), and beer (a connoisseur, explorer of breweries and avid home brewer). His responsibilities aside from running the Triad’s largest engineering group includes the technical and administrative review of services performed by project managers. Stephen has extensive experience with the evaluation and repair of existing building systems that include clay brick masonry, windows and doors, stucco, terra cotta, waterproofing and flashing systems, concrete, wood, steel, and coating systems for modern and historic buildings. He enjoys camping, hiking, canoeing, and photography. Stephen is in charge of the Royal Ranger program (scouting group for boys, age kindergarten to high school) at his church. He enjoys the process of seeing an idea in sketch form, developing and becoming a finished idea. Explaining concepts through drawing is an ongoing motivation for him, which may include working by hand, models or using ACAD, CorelDraw, Photo-Paint, etc. Steven believes that being able to talk with people and ask the right questions is just as important as the drawing production. He explores many areas of his creative nature, whether it is exploring new electronic and experimental music that he often plays on his internet radio program, and by drawing and painting. Over the past twenty-five years, Steven has worked as a designer in the following disciplines: theatrical scenic/lighting/props, McDonald’s indoor/outdoor playgrounds as well as signage, graphics, maps and museum displays. He has also spent a good deal of time as a technical illustrator working on procedural and standards manuals for a large local power company. Over the years, Steven has also enjoyed acting and directing roles and lecturing at Pembroke State University. He is proud of his wife who is an RN and works third shift in the OR where she tries to save lives, while the rest of the family sleeps.
