SKA’s Dave Tepke presenting this week at NACE Concrete Service-Life Extension Conference

NACE Concrete Service-Life Extension Conference

Columbia University, New York City, NY

June 27-29, 2017

Dave’s talk will focus on:

“A Look Back at Code Durability Requirements for 20th Century Reinforced Concrete”

Wednesday, June 28 at 11:15 am

Knowledge of code requirements and industry practice at the time of original construction can greatly benefit the assessment, design and implementation of repair and preservation strategies for aging structures because it allows one to understand the types of issues that may be prevalent. This talk will discuss key durability requirements for structural concrete in ACI and preceding codes from 1908 through today to give the audience a flavor of what can be expected when encountering aged structures to better develop assessment strategies and design service-life extension measures.  Historical aspects of materials and their inclusion in the code, as well as code requirements for addressing materials-related distress such as corrosion, alkali-aggregate reactions, sulfate attack, and freezing and thawing distress, will be discussed.
