Winston-Salem Forsyth County Schools Career CenterWinston-Salem, North CarolinaCloseSKA collaborated with Walter Robbs, PA, on the design for the new Career Center and Career Tech facilites in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. Part of the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools System, the four-story, 143,000-square-foot Career Center and two-story, 60,500 square foot Career Tech building finished construction in 2012 at a cost of approximately $30 million. The two buildings are now part of the Kennedy High School campus, which also includes the Carter Special Education High School, another Walter Robbs/SKA collaboration. Career Tech features a combination of load-bearing masonry and steel framed structure, with architectural, exposed steel throughout. The Career Center is a composite steel structure with a unique 90 foot circular truss feature over the atrium area. Poor soils required the installation of rammed aggregate piers below foundations and slab on grade. Site features include a 70 foot tall accent tower and precast concrete pedestrian bridge providing flow between all facilities on the campus. |
