UVA Pinn Hall Renovation at Levels 3 & 4

The existing eight-story structural steel framed Pinn Hall incorporates 3′-2″ wide open vertical utility chases that extend north-south between structural steel floor girders.  Phase 1 renovation included adding structural steel framed walkways to connect the floor areas on each side of the chases, and re-supporting the severed open web joists that support grating at each floor. Walkway framing was constrained by the presence of vertical pipes in chases that could not be relocated. Support of new architectural moveable glass walls from above was also a feature of the project.
