Walkertown Middle/High SchoolWalkertown, North CarolinaCloseSKA collaborated with Walter Robbs, PA, on the design for the new Walkertown Middle/High School in Walkertown, North Carolina. Part of the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools System, this 220,000-square-foot, $30 million school currently serves students grades 5-12. The Type IIB facility was designed utilizing a combination of load-bearing masonry and steel framed structure, with architectural, exposed steel throughout. Included in the facility are a three-story classroom wing, main gymnasium, practice gymnasium, and a 520-seat auditorium space. The classrooms for the middle/high school students are in dedicated wings, creating separation between the age groups, and the entire school sits on a 61-acre site, including approximately 3.75 acres of building area. Building Information Modeling (BIM) technology was utilized during the design process to create the construction documents, and while the facility was not certified, many green, sustainable construction techniques were implemented, including a green roof over the Media Center.
