    For Aaron, holiday music isn’t just for the holidays but is something to be enjoyed year-round. As a project manager and design engineer in SKA’s Structural Group, Aaron brings many dedicated years of experience to his role. Although his design expertise is in education, institutional, commercial, industrial, and specific-use facilities, he also outshines the competition in the art of baking the best homemade sweet potato pie. Aaron‘s experience in the design and repair of steel, masonry, and post-tensioned and mild steel reinforced concrete structures, including the application of polymer-modified reinforcing for strengthening and rehabilitation purposes, bring his design projects to life. He brought experience supervising engineering teams to his role as Director of Operations and works to achieve goals in the IT, Accounting, Human Resources and Marketing departments.

    Andrew, who is as good with computer systems as he is on the golf course, assists in the Information Systems Group. After working in the MEP/FP Group as a technician and designer, Andrew made a career change within SKA and moved into assisting with the IT Group. It’s a good thing Andrew is so easy going, as he provides hardware and software support for all of SKA,  which includes the main hub in Greensboro, plus all satellite offices, and he does it all with a smile. Andrew loves golfing, not only for the solitude and beauty of the course, but the healthy competition he enjoys with friends and family.

    Andy assists with electrical design such as lighting, power, and fire alarm systems for new construction and renovation projects. He enjoys creating lighting calculations and designing lighting and fire alarm systems. One of his favorite projects was working on the sanctuary lighting improvements for the First Presbyterian Church in Greensboro. Andy met his wife in a cherry orchard, and they now have three young sprouts of their own.

He has experience in electrical power, arc flash analysis, instrumentation and electrical control systems, as well as a strong background in the design of equipment and process control systems utilizing conventional hardwired controls, programmable logic controllers, and distributed process control systems. Bob enjoys his many roles at New Hope United Methodist Church: treasurer, a/v engineer, and choir member.

    Bob Kennerly is a co-founder of SKA, bringing nearly 60 years of experience on more than 3,000 projects. His primary responsibilities include structural design and project management in addition to the investigation of structural failures, building evaluations, and structural rehabilitation design. Some of his major project accomplishments include the Greensboro Coliseum, Asheville Civic Center, parking decks, schools, and a wide range of commercial, industrial, institutional, and governmental projects. A life-long basketball fan and player, Bob coached several teams over the course of 40 years, including serving as the coach for 32 years for all YMCA Travel and All-Star Teams.

    Brett is a project manager with experience in the structural and building envelope design, investigation, and repair of a variety of facility types, including large mixed-use, corporate office, stadiums, recreation, theater/large assembly, higher education and K-12, industrial, governmental, churches, institutional, civil/specialty, and multi-family facilities. Brett’s experience as a project manager includes structural design experience using many types of building materials including structural steel, cast-in-place concrete, pre-cast concrete, timber, laminated timber, aluminum, structural masonry and special earth retention systems. He likes working on large projects, “the larger and more challenging, the better.” Brett enjoyed working on his church’s project, Westover Church in Greensboro, with its 3,000 seat auditorium, and a roller compact concrete dam for the Town of Siler City. He enjoys those projects when the client values our expertise and the relationship is built over years and experience together. The best part of his job is interacting with people and asking questions. Brett loves to spend time with his family, including his four grandchildren, and is very involved in Westover’s leadership, teaching classes, and Biblical Studies.

    “If it’s broke, we’ll fix it” is Brian Cuthbertson’s motto. Brian began as a graduate intern, and has been here ever since, working in his areas of expertise: roofing, waterproofing, building envelope and infrared studies. As part of the Building Solutions Group, Brian’s projects include conducting a wide variety of investigative tests and studies used to evaluate current conditions. Typical types of projects consist of building envelope and component investigations including brick, masonry, EIFS, stucco, concrete and wood structures. When not in the office working, or out on the job site, Brian is most likely found participating in one of his two favorite activities…spending time with his family and riding his motorcycle.

By night, he helps small pockets of the world gain health and relative prosperity by making their world a better place.

    Brad Ehrhardt is an esteemed, senior member of the SKA family as he has been with the firm since 1975, bringing more than 40 years of experience in commercial, institutional and industrial construction with an expertise in large commercial and industrial facilities. Brad oversees all phases of project management with planning, design, evaluation of existing structures, investigation of structural failures, and construction administration of multi-discipline projects. His leadership experience expands beyond the realm of engineering, as he also serves as a team leader for the United Methodist Church Volunteers in Mission for the Western North Carolina Conference where he takes a team to Guatemala once a year – an act of service he has facilitated for the past 12 years. A proud, two-time graduate of North Carolina State University (NCSU), Brad sent all three of his children to NCSU.

    Craig serves as a structural engineer in our Asheville office. His experience spans from residential design to being the area lead for 1/5 of a 2.5 millon sf aluminum mill. Craig received his BS in Physics from San Francisco State University and his MEng in Structural Engineering from North Carolina State University.     Daniel Isenhour, EI, joined the structural engineering team in our Charlotte office. He recently received his BS and MCE degrees in structural engineering from NC State University. Daniel gained his interest in engineering from his Dad, who is a general contractor from Concord NC. Some of his favorite hobbies include fishing, golf, and tennis. He is quite proud of his Eagle Scout Award, obtained for a project he proposed and presented which included fundraising for permits and construction materials, and the eventual construction of a steel shelter.

Daryl enjoys learning and studied at Elon University. He maintains a healthy competition with his brother involving a nightly Jeopardy challenge (he practices up by battling crossword puzzles).     Dave is the Building Solutions in the Charleston office and the Structural Repair Manager for SKA. Dave leads our structural repair team on structural and durability assessments of concrete structures, development of repair and service-life extension strategies and troubleshooting concrete construction. He conducts testing programs, develops coating and high-performance concrete specifications for severe and unique conditions and develops construction documents for the structural repair and preservation of structures. His project experience includes a variety of different types of structures and conditions including coastal structures, manufacturing and industrial facilities, facilities with severe chemical exposure, historical structures, parking structures, energy sector facilities, water and wastewater treatment plants and stadiums.

    Ed currently serves as a Senior Technical Specialist with SKA, and has over ten years of experience in building diagnostics, forensic engineering, cost estimating, and modeling the flow of heat and moisture through building enclosures. Additionally, Ed develops project specific scopes of repair, performs material takeoffs and develops specialized engineering cost estimates to remediate construction deficiencies and damages. Ed  has been involved in class action repair scope determination and damages calculations for Chinese drywall and CSST gas supply lines. Outside of work, Ed coaches youth soccer and plays USTA league tennis.

He changed majors and worked full-time while attending High Point University’s evening degree program, receiving a Bachelor of Science in Information Systems. Eric met his future wife on a blind date through friends, and they were married in 1996. The chemistry was great between Eric and Kelly – a chemist. They have since added twin boys to the mix. Typical projects include the evaluation of distress conditions and water intrusion issues for existing facilities, project management during restoration, and construction administration services.     Jeff has 50+ years experience in the construction industry, including precast/prestressed manufacturing and building restoration, specializing in masonry. He is a nationally-recognized expert in building envelope evaluation, repair, and service life extension and has been active in ASTM and SWRI Institute. Jeff founded and was CEO of Masonry Preservation Services, Inc. (MPS) for 38 years. He helped preserve and evaluate structures including Fallingwater, The Whitehouse, The Pennsylvania State Capital, Penn State Old Main, and many other important historic structures. Working as a contractor for SKA Consulting Engineers, MPS completed many projects including Arden Presbyterian Church (Arden, NC), First Presbyterian Church (Winston-Salem, NC), Harbor Court Complex (Baltimore, MD), Jefferson Standard Building (Greensboro, NC), and The Reynolds Building, (Winston-Salem, NC). Jeff has three books which he co-authored and published with ASTM, two of which are available on their website: Building Walls Subject to Water Intrusion and Accumulation: Lessons from the Past and Recommendations for the Future, Building Facade Maintenance, Repair, and Inspection, and Water Leakage Through Building Facades.

    Kent, a native of Wilmington, North Carolina, brings years of experience to his role as a project manager in the Building Solutions Group in Wilmington. After a rather unfulfilling stint as a business analyst, Kent returned to school at UNC Charlotte where he earned a second BS in Civil Engineering. After completing his degree, Kent joined SKA where he went on to become an influential member of the start-up team for the Wilmington office that opened in 2007. In his current role, Kent manages and oversees a variety of projects, including the evaluation and assessment of exterior façades and various structural investigations. Kent’s areas of focus include residential, commercial, government, and high-rise buildings primarily constructed in the coastal region. Kent’s claim to fame came in a Texas Hold-em tournament on a cruise ship bound for Italy where he made it to the final table with his mad skills in bluffing. He developed a new-found passion for running and exercise in 2014, and he surpassed 1,000 miles with two half marathons under his belt.

    Larry returns to SKA after working bi-vocationally as a pastor and wiring specialist at a diversified industrial products manufacturer in Asheville. He has knowledge of AutoCad and Microstation, engineering drawings and planning process, ability to produce construction drawings and experience in bridges, buildings, reinforced concrete and masonry construction.

    Larry received a drafting diploma from Wake Community College in mechanical drafting and has experience as a technician/CADD operator. He worked with SKA for nearly 10 years before leaving to work full-time in the ministry. Returning to SKA, Larry really enjoys the staff in the Asheville office and finds it a pleasure coming to work and being part of such a professional team.

    He has a Master of Divinity degree and sixteen years experience as a pastor. Larry loves spending time reading, listening to music of all kinds – country, classic rock, Christian/gospel, playing guitar, and riding roller coasters. He has three children: a daughter who is married with three children in Lakeland, Florida; a daughter who is married and is a veterinarian in Raleigh; and, a son who is studying music production at Western Carolina University. Lorna’s first career (20+ years) was in the textile industry in sales and marketing and product development and production control. With changes in the textile industry, Lorna’s job moved overseas, and she decided to go back to school. With all the advancements in the industry, she decided to attend Guilford Tech Community College to learn CAD Drafting. She went on to pursue an Associate’s degree in Architectural Technology at Guilford Technical Community College where she graduated with honors. She feels that she was raised in a constant renovation project, as her father would buy old homes (pre-1950) and renovate them. They lived in each new project, and once completed, they would move to the next project. Lorna has a passion for old buildings and textiles, the history behind them, and how they were constructed. She enjoys hunting old treasures, refinishing and repurposing old furniture, and sewing in her free time.

    Maguita’s responsibilities include accounts payable, as well as processing and posting timesheets for payroll. She switched from payables to receivables and assisted in setting up all the projects company-wide into the accounting system and assigning project numbers. Maguita is also responsible for taking and making calls about job billings and payments, so if the person you are speaking to on the other end of the line has a sweet, southern drawl, it is most likely Maguita. In addition to spending time with her family and being outdoors, whether at the beaches or in the mountains, you will also find Maguita with a camera in her hand. She loves taking pictures and usually brings her camera along to all SKA events, catching folks in the most candid shots. Maguita likes to workout which is good because she also enjoys baking.     Nick is a Senior Designer in the Building Solutions Group whose job has morphed from a role as technician in the structural department to solely project management and testing in the field. His primary responsibilities include multiple phases of planning, design, detailing, testing, and construction administration of building solutions projects that deal mainly with cladding and envelope issues. His experience includes stucco, EIFS, masonry, concrete, coatings, windows and doors, and flashing designs on commercial, institutional and residential projects. In addition, Nick performs third-party reviews of other professional firms’ construction documents to assist clients with potential design issues prior to construction. He loves managing the project, “solving the puzzle,” working with clients, and finds that his work brings him different challenges each day. Nick helps with almost every aspect of his children’s lives — his daughter’s dance program and swim team and coaching his son’s football and lacrosse teams. To get away from their hectic schedules, Nick and his wife enjoy their exclusive family vacations either to the beach or an island.

    Ralph’s primary responsibilities include staff resource planning and management, financial planning and management, project management, marketing and project acquisition, quality and training. He has served as lead design professional on several multi-disciplinary projects for governmental agencies and for private industry. Ralph’s design experience includes classroom facilities at all educational levels, parking decks, athletic and recreational facilities, office buildings, and industrial facilities. His experience also includes investigation and repair projects, peer reviews, and condition surveys. He has significant experience in the design of reinforced concrete, post-tensioned concrete, steel, and masonry structures.

    Ralph has also been highly engaged at SKA’s corporate-level, serving on a number of operational committees. As a member of the CAD Committee, Ralph led the process for the development of standards for CAD drawing production and electronic file management that are currently used company wide. CAD standards were implemented for each engineering discipline through a network based custom computer program that controls CAD drawing appearance and automates repetitive tasks for quality control and efficiency.

    As a member of the Strategic Planning Committee, he was one of six committee members selected by the board of directors to develop a corporate strategic plan under the guidance of a business planning consultant. Ralph was also assigned to lead a committee to develop a company wide efficiency plan.

    Ralph is active in his church and volunteers with religious faith-based organizations and service projects to benefit the needy. Ralph met the girl who would be his wife in 8th grade, and they have three children. He enjoys camping with his family, hunting, and fishing with his son. He and his wife stay fit by jogging regularly in the morning before work.

Outside of the workplace, Rosanna and her husband travel a lot, and have visited the Alps from three different countries (France, Switzerland, and Italy). His responsibilities aside from running the Triad’s largest engineering group includes the technical and administrative review of services performed by project managers. Stephen has extensive experience with the evaluation and repair of existing building systems that include clay brick masonry, windows and doors, stucco, terra cotta, waterproofing and flashing systems, concrete, wood, steel, and coating systems for modern and historic buildings.     Steven assists the Charlotte Building Solutions Department with drafting; illustration; graphical and informational diagrams; and bits of animation. He enjoys the process of seeing an idea in sketch form, developing and becoming a finished idea.  Explaining concepts through drawing is an ongoing motivation for him, which may include working by hand, models or using ACAD, CorelDraw, Photo-Paint, etc. Steven believes that being able to talk with people and ask the right questions is just as important as the drawing production. He explores many areas of his creative nature, whether it is exploring new electronic and experimental music that he often plays on his internet radio program, and by drawing and painting.  Over the past twenty-five years, Steven has worked as a designer in the following disciplines: theatrical scenic/lighting/props, McDonald’s indoor/outdoor playgrounds as well as signage, graphics, maps and museum displays. He has also spent a good deal of time as a technical illustrator working on procedural and standards manuals for a large local power company. Over the years, Steven has also enjoyed acting and directing roles and lecturing at Pembroke State University. He is proud of his wife who is an RN and works third shift in the OR where she tries to save lives, while the rest of the family sleeps. They are very busy with a son, two cats, a terrier dog and an 80 lb. greyhound that is pure muscle!

Tim’s specialties include design of new structures, investigative analysis, and report writing on existing structural systems. Tim and his wife, Amy, are raising four kids from college to middle school age and spend a lot of their very rare spare time at the baseball/softball diamond watching the kids compete.     Zeb is a Principal Engineer in the Building Solutions Group in the Asheville office. In this role, his primary responsibilities include the structural design and management of projects in all phases of planning, design and construction administration. In addition, he manages building investigation and diagnostic projects. When taken by wanderlust, Zeb enjoys RV travel. As a former member of the US Air Force, Zeb spent 16 months in Southeast Asia and also worked as a surveyor at an air base construction site in Saudi Arabia in the late 1970s. One of Zeb’s most challenging projects was the design of the new swinging bridge for Grandfather Mountain. The owner was dissatisfied because the new bridge did not swing as much as the original. Due to the use of galvanized steel in the railings with vent holes in the tube sections, the bridge sings when the wind blows, pacifying the owner who liked the new “singing, swinging bridge”.
